A full A-Z breakdown of escort booking deposits. Let’s take a look at how and why more sex workers are embracing the ‘controversial’ business practice.
Introduction
It’s not an uncommon sight to see this topic discussed on sex work forums across escort ad sites. As a matter of fact, most mid-high end sex workers in the U.S. are implementing all kinds of tactics to curtail rampant time wasting. These efforts by disingenuous clients are sadly all to common in 2025.
Today we’re diving head first into the topic of escort booking deposits. It is a big point of contention among providers and clients. I ‘ll present both side’s arguments and then conclude with my final opinion.

What Is An Escort Booking Deposit?
An escort booking deposit is a payment before meeting to secure the date and time slot of the booking. Deposits are becoming increasingly popular among professional companions. Reason being that it helps to remove some of the uncertainty that comes with this line of work.
Typical booking deposit rates can range anywhere between 20% to 50% of the total rate for the date. Typically, a deposit payment accounts for around 0-30% of the total rate. Long distance, extended length and FMTY (fly me to you) sessions often require half upfront. Deposits are to be paid at the time of scheduling the booking.
So, to quickly recap: A deposit is a portion of the total rate to be paid prior to meeting to secure the time the booking. This is done to reserve that no one else can reserve that appointment time slot in the provider’s schedule. The remaining balance is then due upon arrival at the in person.
An example would be that Client A wants to book me for a 2 hour VIP session which is $700. I charge a 20% deposit. In this case that’s $140 deposit payment via Cash app or Venmo. On the day of our date he will pay the remaining $560 in cash upon arrival. ( +100 tip if I really blow him out of the water!).
Why Are Deposits Necessary?
The post-pandemic state of the industry is at best unstable and at worst, more dangerous than ever. This is true for both providers and clients. A significant shift occurred in 2021. It brought on a tsunami of scammers, flakes and online trolls who had more time on their hands than ever. Popping up alongside it was a bunch of new mediocre advertising websites.
Another contributing factor to the mayhem was the passing of FOSTA/SESTA act that directly led to the shutdown of Backpage. Before the seizure of the beloved classifieds style website, you everyone posted on that one platform. BP consolidated all of the adult service providers to one space. It was easy for clients to find escorts in their area. The industry trajectory since then consists of countless smaller escort advertising platforms that have only 1/10 the reeach. Clients aren’t familiar with all of these new sites so they don’t know where to find us. This hàs led to a dramatic decrease of inquiries and the quality has gone downhill as well.

The impact of these combined efforts cannot be understated. Nowadays it’s not uncommon to encounter more bullshit inquiries than legitimate ones. This could look like getting stood up by a cold footed first timer. Or being given the run around after texting with a guy for 6 hours. Other times it’s more sinister than that. It’s a coordinated effort to waste an escort’s time, energy and money to humiliate and harm her. I cannot even begin to tell you how many hours I have wasted getting ready for a session and driving to a location just to end up ghosted.
The consequences of giving a client 4hrough are just to damn expensive. This is the same position that every other professional companion is in today. The potential earnings that I lose from requiring a deposit PALES in comparison to how much I’d lose by not requiring a deposit.
Common Deposit Policy Requirements
Each and every deposit policy is unique to the provider that you choose to see. The specifics are determined by their needs. Things like distance and how much travel time there is are key factors.
My own deposit policy consists of various location restrictions, time and behavior related criteria, including ;
- Booked ‘X-amount’ of nights in advance
- Late at night OR very early in the morning
- Out of county sessions
- Multi-hour sessions
- First time meeting/new clients
- Extra travel requirements like FMTY (fly me to you) or other alternative modes of transport. ex. Ferries, trains, planes, Uber, etc.

History As A Business Practice
A common pricing/payment strategy for service based businesses is to require a payment prior to starting the work. A percentage (amount varies) of the total price is paid upfront as a deposit payment. The oldest mention of the business practice was traced back to 1754 BCE Babylon in ancient Mesopotamia. Deposits are referenced in the code of Hamarrabi within the 282 laws etched into a large stone monument, found here. It is part of the world’s oldest decipherable legal code.
Some industries that commonly charge a deposit include cosmetologists, hair stylists, and event coordinators. Others service based professions that require a deposit to hold the appointment are general contractors, massage therapists, caterers and tattoo artists. It’s standard procedure for veterinarians and medical practices to charge a cancellation fee after missed appointments. Legal professionals also charge a retainer. Which is just another word for deposit.
“Paid upfront deposits are crucial for service businesses as they improve cash flow, reduce non-payments, provide funds for materials and supplies, and filter out bad clients.”

Mitigating Risk
Deposits are an important tool that helps service professionals mitigate some of the risks often associated with non-payment.
This is the exact same for escorts. Deposits help ensure that we recoup at least a portion of the payment if a no show or last minute cancellation happens. For outcalls, the deposit usually covers gas cost, time spent or Uber if traveling to meet a client. I’ve probably had a handful of clients go ghost after the deposit was paid. Which is a huuuuuuuúge improvement from the amount of flakes that I used to get before implementing a deposit policy.
Another aspect to consider is that when you are booking time with an escort you are effectively securing that time slot in their schedule. So let’s say that you book a 2 hour session, one week in advance, at 8pm on 5/20. From that point onward, anytime someone else inquires about a date on the evening of the 20th they will decline the booking. That time slot is reserved for YOU. In this case, a deposit has substantial benefits for the client as well because if the escort decides that a more profitable opportunity comes up then they have to refund the deposit and cancel.

Playing Devils Advocate: The Client P.O.V.
Escort booking deposits are a contentious subject among many clients. It’s a hotly debated issue that is complex. It can’t be over simplified with a definitive ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
The reality is this: there are an enormous amount of online scammers who use the legal grey area of sex work to prey on it’s patrons. It’s the perfect scam. They take advantage of the men who are sexually frustrated, horny, lonely or desperate. When all of the blood is rushing to the tiny head these guys make impulse decisions in the hopes of the pussy being delivered expeditiously. Often times, they get scammed.
In all honesty, the majority who get scammed are guilty of not doing their due diligence before paying. The risk of getting ripped off can never be 100% eliminated. However, there are some very basic things that you can do to better determine if an escort is legit or not.
Deposit Scams
I have written at length about this topic on my blog, Wits and Tits. One of my most popular posts, ‘How To Avoid Fake Escort Ad Scams‘, addresses this negative aspect of booking deposits. I provided several practical and easy tips, tools and solutions to combat this fraud.
One thing that is super important to make clear, for all the naysayers, is that ACTUAL scammers are behind this deceptive scheme. ESCORTS ARE NOT THE ONES STEALING YOUR DEPOSITS.
It is not a proper legitimate excuse to not pay one just because you say “I’ve been scammed before” to us. What response are you expecting? For an escort to reply with “Well then, you are exempt from my deposit policy. It no longer applies to you. Our date tomorrow night is confirmed.” YEAH FUCKING RIGHT, maybe on delulu island. Located at the intersection of dream world avenue and never going to happen street! I mean, come on bro.

If the client had used a modicum of discernment, a splash of deductive reasoning, and basic research skills, the scam would have been unsuccessful. I’d estimate that 70% of deposit scams are avoidable.
A Few Things To Consider
Google Reverse Image Search
Reverse Image search is a game changer for filtering out the legitimate escorts from the fake ones. Upload the escort’s ad photos into the search bar. Check if the results link to other escort ads under different names. Different personas, locations, contact information and social links are all things you want to look out for. Also, it’s common for scammers to steal photos from porn sites, OnlyFans accounts and even just regular, non-SW, hot chicks.
Verified Accounts On Reputable Escort Ad Sites
There are literally thousands of bullshit escort advertising websites on the Internet. The majority of which are actually scrapper sites and NOT posted by actual escorts. Scrapper sites use an Ai tool to scrape real escort ads. Then, they put them on their website. This attracts organic traffic, results in more views which = $$$$$$ from companies that buy advertisement space on the site. For instance, EroticMonkey is a scrapper site that lists fake reviews. A few that come to mind are HarlotHub, Cityhotties, SecretHostess, SecretBenefit and EscortBabylon. There are many more and new ones pop up literally everyday.
Professional Escort Website + Active Social Media Presence
This duo is a winning combo. The likelihood of an escort who has their own professional website and an active social media presence being a scam is rather low. You see, typically if they were a fraud word would spread and spill into their online presence. It’s not a full proof means of determining their legitimacy but is very telling. These rather unsophisticated, quick, easy deposit scammers switch up personas all the time. The chances of them buying a domain is a long shot. Paying for an annual web development CMS subscription is unlikely. Additionally, developing an active social media account that goes back literal years is improbable.
Consistency Across Multiple Platforms
Consistent contact information, social links and rates/etiquette requirements should match up across all platforms. Do note that there are valid reasons to change phone numbers and/or email addresses (especially for escorts) but it’s just something to keep a look out for. Often, escort agencies will promote and advertise countless personas. However, they send out completely different companions.
Conclusion
To wrap up my thoughts on this topic I’ll leave you with a piece of advice. At the end of the day the decision to pay a booking deposit is up to you. Please, you must use discretion and trust your gut. Although, men aren’t exactly known to be particularly intuitive – RESEARCH IS A MUST! Also, if it’s “to good to be true” then it most certainly is a no-go.
Don’t be impatient, jump the gun to see a companion and then refuse to pay deposits across the based on YOUR failure to take proper precautions. In 2025, requiring a deposit to secure a session is critical to our financial health. Any professional lady (or lad, men can be SWs too) worth a damn will most definitely have a deposit policy. If you still insist on choosing to opt out of paying one that’s okay! But please, for the love of God do not contact providers who takes deposits. Save everyone the time and annoyance.
